Looking Dude

Have you replaced your floor with flat sheet? how thick is it?

Regarding your power steering, in this months Practical Performance Car the editor adds power steering to his capri using the pump from a merc A class, apparently it only needs 3 wires to hook it up

thanks for the positive comments
the floor is a heavy guage flat galv, can't remember if it was 16 or 20 guage, it was the thicker of the 2, but it was thick, then there was a bit of insulation, then 1" of marine play
so that when i come to screw down the interior i'll get a good fixing without screwing through the floor
the power pump, as far as i remember there's only 3 wires needed for this one, and 2 hydrauil lines {bet that threw fluid every where until they connected the hydraulic lines }
at the time i didn't know that there were other cars running electric power steering pumps, but for £28 i aint going to complain

Cant complain for £28 can you. How bigs your pump as the merc one looked quite compact just tall but theres loads of places to hide it in a van.
I now have an Astra power rack similar to yours but i've gotta wait till i move house before i start messing about with it

the pump stands abour 25cm high and 10cm diameter
this far i got no idea how noisy it is, not sure if i can run it without fluid in it, i don't want to kill it before i start, but on the other hand i don't want to put in behind the bench seat and find it's a loud as the motor

you could just connect the outlet to the inlet, and run it up with fluid in it!!

i might need to have a chat with you about the steering rack at some point soon!!
been asked if i can fit one to a customers van, and i'd like to bang heads, and possibly have a look at the install if you'd be up for it??
