Default Newbie Attempts a Lotus White 67 Light Resto

Well here goes, hopefully a journey that will take me through the winter, with a lovely shiny bug to take me round the shows next year. Dont think this car will ever be a show winner (at least not on my budget, however if i can get her looking shiny with lots of lovely shiny bits then I'll be happy

Let me introduce Elizabeth or as my Missus has renamed her 'Betty' named after the original owner

Betty is a 1967 Lotus White 1300, 2 lady owners from new with a documented 64K and full service history. Fair to say she's been maintained but certainly hasn't been cherished. Overall she's solid as a rock, heater channels, spare wheel well, floorpan, framehead are all in great nick, there some surface rust, she's had a not brilliant respray and her interior is a bit shabby but nothing a bit of work and a splash of cash wont sort.

She's been bought as a 40th birthday pressie for myself as I've always wanted a Bug (Dad used to have them in the early 70s) and definately going for a modest Cal Look - although in the short term is likely to be 'all show and no go' as budget will limit enhancements in the engine bay!

The vision is to
  • change the wings for pre '67 items (already sourced nos ones)
  • fit a nice shiny set of Fuchs (already sourced)
  • redo the interior in red leather with an off-white piping and oatmeal carpets
  • proper respray (still in original Lotus White) to give it a bit of much needed gleam
  • Get the engine out and give it a bit of a tidy, along with the tinwear
  • Drop the front end (obviously!!)
  • Add a few trinkets inside, shifter, tacho, niceFlat4 steering wheel etc.
    • A proper overhaul on the brakes, getting discs of the front and making sure I'm going to be safe if budget eventually allows a monster motor in the back!

This is my first venture into anything like this (think I changed the chain on my BMX once!!) and VZi has already been a valuble source of both parts and information - (anybody that hasn't signed up for some sponsorship get yourself sorted out!!!!!) But please be patient, I sense a dark winter of many stupid questions!!!!
