Well, it appears i may have a special edition 'Big Beetle' after all.
I've been wondering for a while as to the originality of the colour of my bug. The doors seem original and have original red paint, as does the windscreen surround, however the doors are probably from a different car and the rest could have been sprayed during its 34 year life.
After a pm from cjdriver who runs the 'Big Beetle' register
http://www.thedriverfamily.co.uk/Big...owRegister.php
, who noticed the Hellas Beige heater channels on the pictures of when i fitted my new carpets. He also confirmed it has the Big Beetle special features such as wooden dash inserts, special steering wheel, wide GT style wheels etc.
I decided to do a bit more digging.
So here's a few pics that confrim our suspicions.
Firstly the heater channel that Chris spotted:

The louvre panel behind the vent under the rear window. Looks like Hellas Beige under the flaky paint.

The inside of the engine lid (i just thought it had been replaced with a gold one at some point)

The bits behind the black half moon vents, you can see a bit of Hellas Beige at the bottom of it:

After peeling a bit of the headlining back, it clearly was Hellas Beige 98c origianlly and not red.
It should also have a brown corduroy interior & brown door cards, which kind of explains why this seat base came with it when i bought it
I think the plan now is to start collecting parts to turn it back to an original 'Big' Beetle, and save up for a respray. Needs doing anyway as the red paintjob is poor.
