Default LT's '64 Project - Part II

PART ONE: http://www.volkszone.co.uk/VZi/showthread.php?p=2298642

Wow, part II already - and the body work isn't even finished!
To save scanning through the last thread, I'll start with a Discovery Channel style recap to bring things up to speed.

Bought an absolute basket case of a '64 in March 2006. It was incomplete, partially botched, neglaected and only fit for using as a donor shell - not that there was much to save. Still, I like a chellenge and set about a full resto. Here's what flaked off the back of a trailer...

As you can see - a complete shitter.

The plan was (and still is) to do all the work myself, to the highest standard I can within the confines of a single garage whilst juggling the demands of two children and a job with long hours.

Set about making the limited space I have as clean and as organised as possible...

Made a winch system to allow me to lift the body on and off the frame by myself.

This contraption has made my life so much easier.

Also decided to make a rotating body jig to allow me easier access to underneath as the restoration progresses.

Again, this really makes life much easier when working alone.

Woo-Hoo part 2, .

I know what it's like trying to juggle a full on resto whilst devoting time to the kids, work etc, ....
..........wouldn't change it for the world!!

I didn't realise what a state it was in when you got it.
You've done well to get this far.

Then came the usual strip down...

My technique for getting the door hinge screws out.

Left a feed cable in place to pull the new loom through.

Floor pan looks solid but isn't - VERY heavily pitted, almost wafer thin and will need replacing.

Now the serious work started with the channels and pillars. Had a quick play with repro channels and decided that quality, longevity and fit was more important than heater outlet position, so opted for genuine late model channels and bottom plates. Pics speak for themselves.

Repro junk

Genuine quality

Nuff said.

Pleanty of waxoyl

Hookys quality and fit - spot on.

New channels, pillars and cross members

Built some body stands whilst the rear quarters are cut out to support the body.

Again, quality and fit are the priority so a full set of genuine quarters were sourced and a perfect original long bonnet!

Cut out the rear quarters...
