Default 1966 Sea Blue Beetle

I have decided to put my bug up for sale. A 1966 sea blue bug thats been well looked after. I've owned it for the last 7 years and have tried to sypathetically restore it back to a high standard.

It was a lucky find, a 1 previous owner car that needed a bit of work but had never been restored before, so it was largely original.

This is what it looked like when I got it. I striped it back to find out what needed doing to it. The areas the needed attention where the back ends of the heater channels, and edges of the rear cross members, bumper hangers, rear suspension mounts and the front of the heater channels, where the inner wheel arch meets the top of the channel itself.

Hayden from panelkraft did the welding and painting. I supplied 2 genuine mexican heater channels, cross members and rear suspension mounts, hookeys bumper hangers and heater channel bottom panels and a battery tray panel.

The original heater channels were kept and fresh metal let in where needed. It returned looking like..

I put it all back together using good used or the best quality parts I could.
Day moulding wings were used as the other were way past there best. Stainless steel bumpers with geniune rechromed overriders, new bumper iron and bits were all powder coated silver/grey as per original. NOS sea blue wing beading and blue running boards were used.

Inside is all original, the only thing ive changed is the steering wheel to a flat 4 empi one and added the flat 4 door trims.

Everything inside is as it left the factory. All the grey rubber matts are in good condition. the bits of carpet on the rear wheel arches are missing and the stiching on the front seat is coming apart. The material itself is all ok.

The car is solid now. The floor pan is largely original metal, apart from the battery tray and one jacking point

door gaps are good and straight. The bottom of the doors have rusted slightly and there are a couple of small holes, theyre not that bad.

the dark areas in the above pic are where ive put krust on a bit of surface rust.

running gear.. original engine and gear box. Rear brakes have been renewed. Up front I have changed to discs using post 67 brake disc kit from machine 7. Upgraded to dual circuit. So the braking system is new. I managed to get hold of a US Spec dual circuit fluid reservoir to sit in the same place as the og one

Its running on a 3 and3/4 inch narrowed front beam. Lowered using adjusters and dropped spindles. Its not on its lowest setting, so it doesnt damage the front valence. It using front shocks from a mini and it rides nicely. Wheels are JGE gas burner copies with polished and detailed porsche centr caps.

all the beam and brake work was done by Retrocustom. They narrow the original beam and have done a great job. It was finished in jan 08 so ive just been driving and enjoying it. Past it mot this year with no problems.

This is a solid and largely original bug, there are a couple of bad points, the rust on the door bottoms and theres a few dents on the bottom of the bonnet from the previos owner

Things like the gutters are all good.

Its for sale for £6k. No trades or swaps. Viewings welcome, Im based in Hitchin, Herts.
My no. is 07817 209986

any quetions feel free to ask

Cheers
Ben
